Chess Figures . JOSEF HARTWIG . BAUHAUS . 1924
Concentration is an essential gift for good chess play. Josef Hartwig designed the perfect figures for this at the Bauhaus in 1923. Reduced to the essentials, all distractions are prevented. Hartwig, foreman at the Bauhaus from 1921 to 1925, made the basic shapes of cubes and spheres the exclusive basis for all figures. The chess set was one of the first series products from the Bauhaus. As a re-edition, the figures, like the board today, are manufactured by the NAEF company in Switzerland.
